3J's is the band that represents The Netherlands! When we watch then performing is obvious that they are used to concerts and shows. This a very good song but it will be very difficult to end in the top 10 of this tought semifinal. Good Luck Netherlands!!

This is not the first time that we saw a capella band in the Eurovision stage. This is the best ever. Probably Belgium wont be in the final but the band will give us a great music time, original, professional and funny!

For us the best performance was from Albania, a great voice and a great show, but the most expected performance of the night was for Blue from the UK!

Is promotion needed?

Posted on March 19, 2011 at 8:39 PM Comments comments (0)

Every year all participating countries in Eurovision try to do the best to get a good place. Its common to find a facebook profile, a webpage or CDs. Some countries make deals with marketing companies and some others try to make promotion considering the diaspora factor. Internet seems to be the biggest vehicle of promotion but probably only for all those persons that follows Eurovision. We decided to study more of the phenomena of promotion. Is it needed in order to have success in Eurovision? Of course this is not a research study but we only want to remark some facts. The classical promotion consist in making a videoclip which all participating countries can broadcast in all the involved countries. We considered the last three years: in 2008, 77% of the participating countries made a videoclip but last year that number decreased two points, for 75%. For the televisions channels is easy to make a video, but is it effective? In 2008 and in 2009, 80% of the songs that reached the final made a music video before (In 2010, that number decreased for 70%). Of course the number of the countries that can go to the final is limited to 20, but in 2009, only 37% of the countries that had a videoclip didn’t make it to the final. Its true that we cannot consider the quality of the song or the quality of the videoclip, and for those reasons nothing is conclusive but the countries that made videos tended to have more success. Its simple to proove that from 2008 to 2010, only one song that reach the Top 3 in the final didn’t have a music video. In 2010, all the songs in the final Top 10 made a videoclip and in 2009 only one didn’t make a preview video. Other fact is the tour. We don’t have enough information about the number of artists that made a promotion tour before ESC and where it happened but since 2009, OGAE Netherlands organize the Live Show called Eurovision in Concert. We notice that half of the artists that went to the concert also reach the final and that by coincidence (or not) the artist that place second (Yohanna and Athena) also went to The Netherlands. If its needed or not, we can not conclude, but if the countries don’t promote themselves, their life in Eurovision seems to be more difficult.
