#ESC2016 #EOT weekly report #5: 41 countries and an obvious surprise

One more week and here is our weekly report about the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

This week we are happy to announce a surprise which basically isn’t any one to the Eurovision community. But anyhow a news which makes the Eurovision community for sure happy.

• 41 country in Stockholm

1. Australia

Since last year participation of Australia and the really good result of a 5th place, something countries participating since long time didn’t achieve in their history, there have been rumors, if the participation really would stay as one time thing.

The rumors grew with the announcement of the participation of Australia at the Junior Eurovision, which will be held the next weekend in Sofia.

But the rumors really began to be very strong when the EBU last week announced that there will be 41 countries participating.

As all the final deadlines were closed and all the countries including Turkey officially confirmed or denied, there was like the only chance it would be Australia.

At the other hand a lot of fans and experts expected the return. Observing the attitude of the EBU since Malmö 2012 it looked like a very well prepared plan to include Australia successful step by step into the contest.

In 2012 it was a short film from down under. In 2013 it was the chance of making an interval act and bring a live performance on stage. In 2014 finally the participation. And now the return.

Till now it is just an return in 2016 and no final confirmation about a totally entry into the contest.

In due to other news, like that there will be 6 directly qualified countries (Big 5 + host), it seems that Australia will go through the semi finals to qualify to the final.

Anyhow, in times the world seem to have big challenges and things seem to divide a continent, it is good to have signs, even if they are small, to feel like the world is growing together.
