Next November, José Cid will receive a Latin Grammy Award for Musical Excellence. This award is given to artists who have made contributions of exceptional artistic significance to Latin music. According to the Latin Academy, Eva Ayllón, Joan Baez, Lupita D'Alessio, Hugo Fattoruso, Pimpinela, Omara Portuondo and José Luis Rodríguez “El Puma” will also receive this award.
José Cid's work is recognized by everyone in Portugal, not only for his participation in several National Festivals and for his participation in Eurovision 1980 but especially for his songs that passed through several generations. The artist remains a success selling out concerts and gigs. For the most distracted, remember that his album 10.000 Anos Depois Entre Vénus e Marte (1978) is considered one of the best progressive rock in the world and the first hard-to-find vinyl editions can reach very high values in the market.
Other portuguese eurovision artists also have some Grammy connections, in 2014, fado singer Carlos do Carmo was awarded with a Latin Grammy Career Award and Sara Tavares was nominated in 2018 for her album Fitxadu.
