#ESC2016 #EOT weekly report #2: Montenegro's Highway and UK's new way of selection

Posted by Pedro.Eurovisionontop on October 4, 2015 at 4:10 AM

Welcome once again to our new and weekly report about the Eurovision Song Contest 2016.

This week we will give you an update about what happend during the last week:

  • UK changes the way of selection

  • Montenegro's Highway to Eurovision

1. UK

The last years at Eurovision haven't been very successful for UK. In the last 10 years the united kingdom didn’t united a lot of points on the scoreboard. There were two last places and seven ranking in the last 5 places on the scoreboard.

And it didn’t have matter in the last years, if the UK have sent big names of the music like Bonnie Tyler (2013) and Engelbert (2012) or modern electro music (Electro Velvet – 2015).

This year BBC announced that they will change the way of selection. And not just that, they will go for the biggest song search ever in the history of the UK participation at the Eurovision.

  • The selection is open for amateurs, professional or even superstars

  • Till 20th November 2015 everyone(>18 years) can send a video of an own song

  • The British fan club (OGAE) which counts more than 1000 members, will be invited to have a look on the shortlist

  • Also the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA) will contribute with suggestions of songs

  • Hugh Goldsmith will act as music consultant

  • Out of all of this there will be a final shortlist, which will be presented to a professional panel and the public

  • At the end the public will be asked to choose the UK entree for 2015!

A long and complex way to choose the right song. So all the best of luck to the land of pop!

Good luck UK!

Once again the selection is made out of a former participant of an internationally known casting show. The Balkan version of X Factor (X Factor Adria) isn’t for the first time the source for participants. Last years representative of FYR Macedonia Daniel Kajmakoski was a former winner of this show.

Montenegro had in 2015 the best results ever, making a 13th place. Perhaps they got the taste of success at this competition and now want to try to choose the highway to the top!

The trio / band Highway didn’t win the casting show but got the 4th place. The internal selection was made by experts of the national broadcaster RTCG.

The three young men Petar, Marko and Luka will have a high expectation after two good years of Montenegro at Eurovision.

We will see, if they can convince the European public as they did at the X Factor Adria including a jury, with a very good known Eurovision artist, Zeljko Joksimovic.
