1st Rehearsals of the 2nd Semi - strong Israel and flashing Australia

Posted by Pedro.Eurovisionontop on May 4, 2016 at 6:10 PM

It's the third day of rehearsals at the Globe Arena, a sunny day and the first day for the countries of the second semi final. It's the day a lot of artists wait for since weeks and month... to feel the first moment on stage, to get a feeling for the staging and a first feedback of the press.

This moment of eurovision truth today was for the participants of the second semi final.

Latvia started the day, very early, just in time and very professional, like the artist said at the press conference. The second country was Poland - one of the surprises and underdogs of this year. Poland testes two different outfits and also staging of background performers with violins.

During the press conference Poland surprised with some answers like the person to whom the singer dedicated his actual album - his mother who passed away - a moment not only the singer had tears in his eyes. But also the answer with whom he would like to sing a duet with was suprising - Tina Turner was the answer.

Switzerland was the next one on stage, with Rykka in a new hair colour and a basic performance as well. If it will be enough to have a good song and smoke coming out of the clothes will be seen.

The first surprise of the day was Israel performing made of stars. The song, which is a complete different one to the last years "golden boy" turned into a very powerful and strong song being supported by an amazing staging... clear, basic but strong, specially with a highlight at the end, turning into a strong moment.

Strong was also the statement of the israel artist speaking about what Kaliopi told him, that winning the eurovision is not about bringing the trophy home, it's about having a song the people remember years later.

After the lunch break it was Belarus on stage. The country which in the past liked to change artists or songs, this time chose to change the staging. The rumours about Ivan going nakedon to stage together with wulfs turned into reality. But at the end the song stays the song. A lot of special effects and virtuell stuff for an average song.

Serbia performed with a new look, nothing reminds Amy Winehouse anymore. But it reminds the only serbian winning performance so far of 2007. The backgrounds, the moves and the final pose.

Completly without any special effects, just with lightings, worked Ireland. The sining performance seemed like not to be on the point. We will se how the next rehearsals will go.
Interessting moment after the first performance: no applaus or reaction in the press center.

The last three of the second semi final for the day were FYR Macedonia, Lithuania and Australia, who for the first time have to go through a semi final. This for sure was one of the most expected rehearsals of the day.

FYR Macedonia this years send the known Kaliopi, so everyone was excited to see how she would performe. And she didn't disappointed at all.

Lithuania comes with a strong performer, singer and song. It is basic but powerful and maybe once again they will do it striaght to the final.

But the biggest surprise for today was Australia for sure. Amazing and interesting staging, a brilliant singer and a fantastic song. Maybe an underdog!?
